Candy canes are a beloved holiday treat, and now you can make them yourself with this easy recipe. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create delicious and festive candy canes that are perfect for gifts or stocking stuffers.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
- Red and white food coloring
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened and reached the hard-crack stage (300 degrees F on a candy thermometer).
- Remove from heat and stir in the peppermint extract.
- Divide the mixture in half and add red food coloring to one half and white food coloring to the other half.
- Transfer each mixture to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe the candy canes onto the prepared baking sheet, starting from the center and working your way out.
- Allow the candy canes to cool completely before enjoying.
